SENSITIVITY , RESPONSIBILITY & TEAMWORK - CHRISTMAS INCLASS ACTIVITY

I am showcasing the Christmas in-class activity which we taught our students this December. Celebrating the holidays and Christmas is a special experience for children. Bringing this celebration into the classroom makes learning memorable. I accomplish this by a wonderful theme for each level with a story. We also planned for the Christmas Choir song performance in English. The Inclass activities were divided into five activities: Storytelling, Touching and feeling Christmas characters, Winter fine motor skill activity, Story retelling, Stocking game, Santa role play, Christmas light projector, Pin the nose activity, matching the props with character, Making a headband and performing a song, Snowman button counting activity, Making a Christmas Wristband, Growing a Christmas tree, Snowman button counting activity, Giving the gift and singing a Christmas carol,  a wonderful final group performance recording at the end. We had planned activities for both Longkhanh and Bienhoa as well.

I had taken the overall responsibility to design the plan with the content and theme suiting all four levels Mam, Nhatre, Choi, and La which was approved by Ms. Thuy Anh. We taught the students a Christmas choir song for performing on the final day of Christmas eve and made some structure in English to make them understand the Christmas characters, traditions, and celebrations.

Even though the idea was single-handed I grouped with the kindergarten team to have perfect teamwork to design and arrange the materials with the English department to coordinate with the supplier in advance after approval.

1. Storytelling

We pick three stories for this in-class event. Nha tre level-  The squeak squeak Christmas, Mam level – The very Smiley Snowman. Choi & La level – The little reindeer who lost his presents & the perfect Christmas tree. The experience of this storytelling made our students increase their vocabulary. Talking about the pictures or what has happened in the story leads to rich conversation and enhances English language development as well.

2. Touching and feeling the Christmas character

I also had a wonderful idea of touch-and-feel books. This book made our children so focused and engaged. These books also encourage interaction through the nose and sound. It made reading fun and students enjoyed it so much. They enrich language by achieving the target structures as well.

 3. Winter fine motor skill activity

As we are having the snowman story, I also planned to have a related activity to make them feel interested. The template that i selected contains a charming Christmas winter scene with lots of white circles for the children to place buttons. I also like to provide children with an extra winter sensory experience, by providing children with colorful buttons for group work and enhancing teamwork. All the students enjoyed it. I also gave them a little reward for their wonderful teamwork by giving some stickers to the winning team.

 4. Stockings game

I designed the game and prepare the stockings of the characters to make the students match it with the correct character to review the learned vocabulary. It's a wonderful game that enhances critical thinking by identifying their favorite Christmas character this year. It went well. All enjoyed it to the core. I really loved the students enjoying the productive language with perfection when it comes to Relia method of teaching methodology..

5. Story retelling

I also made the students retell the story in English. It was really fun as the way they express themself was really the best which increases the familiarity with the story and offers more opportunities for their participation during the experience. I also made them have a popup book where they can enact like the character in the story. All the other students were listening to their peers by enjoying and learning from a story told by a classmate.

6. Santa roleplay

After learning the Santa song from super simple, I made my kids roleplay to be a SANTA. It encourages imagination and creativity to give presents to fellow mates. It also improves language skills and communication with the target song. They enjoyed having the friend dressed up like SANTA and asking him to deliver the presents that they want for this Christmas. It was amazing seeing them remember the toys vocabulary that i taught them a long ago.

7. Christmas light projector

At the end of the class, I plan for my students to have a Christmas light projector toy showcasing all the vocabularies and Christmas scenes. All our students enjoyed projecting their favorite characters and eliciting the target language accordingly. It was really fun having some light projected in a dark place. They loved it so much and were excited to see the frames on the wall in a dark room.

8. Matching the props with the character

I designed the game to have them match the props with the correct character. It was a wonderful game for young learners to identify and match it correctly which enhance their thinking skills. They also make a Sentence pattern at the end with a clear understanding.

9. Making a headband and performing a song

we often want to make some art related to the topic and song. So I selected the Christmas headband with the characters matching our story and connected it with a super simple song. Once made a wonderful headband, I make them sing and dance to the Hello Reindeer song. It was really amazing as they were really into the song while recording it. I also added the productive language with the headband and the performance in the below video for your reference.

10. Snowman button counting game

I also prepared some math lessons related to our topic. Counting the buttons and placing them on the snowman template. It was a group activity and we conducted a competition for checking which team is good is faster to complete and count in English. The activity went well and the children were rewarded with stickers for their wonderful teamwork.

11. Growing a Christmas tree -STEM lesson

I also made them involved by teaching a stem lesson. I made them follow the instruction to make a beautiful Christmas tree in class. They also had a clear understanding of what the tree needs for growing. as it was a science experiment, It took 48 hrs for the result and the tree look awesome after 48 hrs and they were really surprised with the outcome.

12. Pin the nose activity

I also organized a party game for our students for this Christmas by pinning the nose on snowman which enhances the fine motor skills of the students. It was very good and fun with the results.

13. Giving the gift and going out for caroling

I made them give the Christmas tree that they made in the class as a present by showing their love and performing a song in front of them. Caroling is a wonderful experience to have a Christmas vibe and I taught a wonderful English song "Feliz Navidad" to them for this Christmas season. They enjoyed caroling and going outdoors. It was a memorable one for them.

14. Final performance recording

At the end of this Christmas in-class activity, we planned a recording schedule for their English song performance with the marketing team for filming with Christmas headbands and showing them to their parents. All were very cute and performed like stars. I have attached the video of the performance below. Please watch it until the end for seeing them sing and dancing with wonderful steps.

I have attached all the Christmas Inclass videos for your reference below.
