SELF DEVELOPMENT - Achieving the IELTS band score 8 -- SMART GOAL (transforming C1 from B2 level)
As we all know the Smart goal for a teacher should be upgrading them with the latest trend to enhance their teaching skill. As an English teacher, I want to improve the quality of my English level.
I made my workout plan to write the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test which is available in Vietnam. I know this is an international standardized test of English Language proficiency for Non- native English Language speakers.
First, I booked the test date with British Council and started practicing my skillset for listening, speaking, writing, and reading. Due to my workload and classes, I don't have enough time to focus and complete the practice test as planned. I tried hard to push myself to complete it during my free time and took the final test. But as you know I was unable to score as expected due to my lack of practice and focus. As it was my first time, I also learned the place where I am getting stuck and making mistakes. Then I practiced it thrice to make ensure I won't repeat it again.
Below attached is my TRF (Test Report Form) for the first attempt and you can see my overall score was 6.5 with a CEFR level of B2 on last Dec 2011.
Then, I preplanned again for my next attempt with the British Council as I got a lot of ideas from my first one. First of all, I prefer smart work rather than spending hours studying. Then I write down my weak points and the place where I need to put more effort, for example, it was writing. I practiced every section consistently and not concentrating on only one or two like I did last time.
I have taken the test with full of confidence this time. I was very much elated when i came to know that I got band 8 in IELTS this year in 2022 with a CEFR level of C1. I have attached my TRF of the second attempt below for your reference.
As I know the SMART goals involve S- specific, M- measurable, A- achievable, R- relevant, and T- timebound.
S (Specific) - My main precised goal was to achieve Band 8 and improve my language skills.
M ( Measurable): I was planning accurately with my progress and analyzed in detail where I need to put more efforts to get it on my way.
A (Achievable) - As a teacher, I scheduled my timing for my practice test and balanced my work accordingly to achieve the best out of it.
R (Relevant) - As an English teacher who wants to become better, this IELTS test enhances the language skill which is relevant and realistic.
T (Timebound) - This test has the time frames where I planned and properly executed my practice.
Bettering yourself can only be possible if you want it to be. Strive to give your students the best of yourself, As teaching is one of your most significant contributions to the world's progression. This is my wonderful transformation from B2 to C1 level at the IELTS test with Band 8.
I want to conclude with never give up until you achieve your goal.
