SENSITIVITY , RESPONSIBILITY & TEAMWORK - HALLOWEEN EVENT

I designed a wonderful theme called a spooky place for this Halloween which was divided into four parts: a scary DIY jack-o-lantern,  a wonderful dance performance, a fashion show, and Halloween puzzle games for our children. We had this event for both Bienhoa and Longkhanh.

I had taken the overall responsibility to design the lesson content and get it approved by Ms. Thuy Anh on time three weeks before to have the materials in-house without any delay. We taught the students a Halloween song for performing during Halloween and review some Halloween vocabulary in English as well which we will be using during the project.

Even though the idea was single-handed I grouped my team to have perfect teamwork to design and get the suggestion for making the sample in such a way for us to find the best way of doing all the planned Halloween decorations.

1. Making a DIY Jack-o-lantern

We made DIY jack-o-lanterns for our kids to paint during the class to have them during the performance as property and also used that one to collect their candies during the Halloween event. It's really adorable and they made their own scary faces to make the jack-o-lantern look unique. We also taught them to sing a song of Jack-o-lantern and prepared a performance related to that. It will be the best lovely craft for the students to have during Halloween where they can collect their candies during the special event. It also improved the painting skills of our students and had a chance to showcase their creativity by making faces on their own. We also had a wonderful pretend game with that called a "Trick or treat"

2. A wonderful dance performance

I have planned a 2mins 17 secs song for Halloween and practiced along with my kids in the class first to check how it works. I have filmed the rehearsal video with dolphin 1 as attached below and sent it to all my teachers to practice the same steps for all the levels to have uniformity while performing. All the teachers were dancing on stage showcasing our performance by making all the students dance along with us in front of Block B. Everybody loved enjoying dancing to the song during this event. It went well as per plan.

I have attached the rehearsal video below and the student dancing video will be at the end of the blog. please watch it.

 3. A fashion show

Fashion shows are meant for costumes. Especially for those errands, the kids do not always enjoy walking alone with their dressed-up character, pairing them up and making them walk on stage was something fun and new which can make the event a lot more exciting and enjoyable.
I and my teachers trained all the students for walking like zombies and making scary poses at the end. Children loved it and enjoyed walking like zombies during the fashion show. We also had perfect teamwork and support from the English department for this fashion show. We had three secondary teachers and one teaching assistant who were involved in this to make it happen as per plan (1- coordination, 1- music and group photo, 1- photobooth, 1- posing and settling down after the walk). The decorations we made before three days and got the support from kindy team for providing us the ramp walk mats. We had nineteen classes ( all levels in the Bienhoa campus) who had been scheduled for this fashion show. all the classes were been taking part based on the schedule as per the kindy team.

 4. Halloween puzzle game - Spooky place

As a team, we made a theme of a Spooky place and decorated the photo booth as planned. The place was quiet enough to display all the decorations that we made for the event. I have taken the advice of Ms. Thuy Anh's mam to engage all the students to join the game. I designed the pumpkin puzzles with the different colored jack-o-lantern and taught the students to have a clear understanding by reviewing the numbers and colors that they have learned earlier. We also made some sentence patterns during the game to make them elicit while playing.

For the lower levels Nha tre and Mam, I designed to have the pumpkin-shaped ball to carry and put in the correct colored basket as teamwork by eliciting productive language. For Dolphin and Chicken level I made it little challenging by giving each student a puzzle template to arrange as per the sample to finish accordingly. We made poke the pumpkin game using cups and colored paper. We also gave them the lollipop as a reward for their wonderful teamwork.

As in the above picture, we designed a ghost pinata as a special gift for the winning team to appreciate the student's effort. we prepared some special Halloween gifts for the five winning teams as well.

For this spooky place station, we have 6 teachers and 3 Teaching assistants to organize games for all 4 participating teams as planned. All teachers put their wonderful presence to make the event a successful one as planned. All responses from the homeroom teachers and students were really good.

Apart from a Halloween party we also tried  to impose a set of benefits to our students as outcomes listed below

Benefits of the Halloween event

As you know why we made the jack-o-lantern as it really improves the painting ability without having to spend hundreds on expensive art lessons. It was also a perfect gift idea for Halloween to collect candies during the event. We also used it as a prop for the dancing performance. Once we are done with the DIY jack-o-lantern we had a pretend to play to enhance the development of their language skills, social and emotional skills, and thinking skills and it also helped in developing their imagination by making faces on their own.

During Halloween, we taught them new characters' vocabulary and a wonderful dance performance through super simple songs. Their imitation of these characters with the dance steps and learning with physical response was very impressive, and this helps them make meaningful connections between written and spoken language which in turn helps them when it’s time to learn how to read.

When a child joins other children during the Halloween fashion show, that child actively experiments with emotional and social roles. This helps in the development of feelings and building self-esteem. It helps the child learn how to work with others in society. We also created awareness by making them the zombie walking and scary poses photoshoot to appreciate the beauty of Halloween and overcome any feeling of fear while being engaged in fashion shows and photoshoots.

Pumpkin ball game race work on gross motor skill development such as overall strength, endurance, coordination, body awareness, motor, and postural control, and core strength. It strengthens color recognition by developing fine motor skills by gripping and throwing the correct color pumpkin in the basket. It also promotes self-confidence. We had productive language using the colors of the pumpkin while playing the game.

Pumpkin puzzle game is a great time for our kindy students to build cognitive and fine motor skills. we also imposed numbers and colors for them to make them easier to solve. we have used some spatial vocabulary like turn, flip, and rotate when we coach children to fit puzzle pieces together. Children also learn words such as above, below, and besides when they describe the position of puzzle pieces about each other. The sequencing was imposed with the numbers where our children hear and learn ordinal numbers and words that indicate the relative position in a sequence, such as first, second, third, and last. We worked as a whole class to have perfect teamwork through difficulties collaboratively. Task completion of the puzzle on time made our children encounter frustration when they cannot easily solve their pumpkin, and when they work through these emotions, they enjoy the success of task completion. Working through these feelings helps children develop persistence, or the ability to keep going in the face of difficulty.

I am also sharing the videos of the Halloween event below for your review. Don't miss the performance of our wonderful students and the best moments which we had in our Spooky place.
