SENSITIVITY - HULA HOOPS ACTIVITY FOR YOUNG LEARNERS DURING ENGLISH LESSONS

I am showcasing that the Hula hoop activity provides a fun way to be active during English lessons. It is non-competitive and can be as skills-based or creative as you like. Some kids love to dive into their imaginations and easy to review the vocabulary.

It is a great activity for individual focus and learning, group and team building, and interaction during my English lesson. Hooping is excellent for developing motor skills and left/right brain activity as well as supporting neuroplasticity, mindfulness, and connection with self and others in a playful, non-threatening environment. It supports both cardio and strength-based fitness too.

Our dolphins love enjoying playing with the hula hoops to learn about the patterns, weather, and animal vocabulary with full understanding. It also made a better classroom environment enhancing teamwork and the output was remarkable, making them very active and involved in the lesson without getting distracted.

Firstly, I was using these hula hoops for teaching really fun patterns. It makes the perfect group activity to enhance rhythm, critical thinking as well as good coordination as shown below.

Secondly, I was using these hula hoops for teaching vocabulary through a tunnel game with awesome teamwork. Have children stand in a line, each with a hoop upright and touching the ground to form a tunnel. Invite other children to crawl or run through the tunnel. It was also made that they have to make a structure while passing through the tunnel by making it more challenging with a competition. It makes the perfect group activity to enhance body awareness and physical muscular coordination as shown below.

Lastly, I was using these hula hoops for teaching vocabulary through a jumping game to review the vocabulary. Have children listen and jump correctly to get the reward. It was also made that they have to make a structure after they jump to the correct card. It improves balance, listening, and great fun for children as shown below.

The main benefits which we can bring up with my students were coordination, core strength, endurance, flexibility, attention, and confidence.

I am also sharing the videos of the hula hoops activity during my classes with the structure at the end for your reference.
